Supporting Buffalo Community Fridge: How You Can Help & Get Rewarded
At Her Seed Bank, we believe in the power of mutual aid, community support, and direct action. That’s why we’re teaming up with Buffalo Community Fridge (BCF)—a grassroots, 100% volunteer-run initiative providing free, fresh food to Buffalo residents.
Buffalo Community Fridge operates on a simple motto: Take what you need, leave what you don’t. This network of community fridges helps fight food insecurity, reduce waste, and strengthen local bonds. Located at 286 East Ferry, 45 Jewett Avenue, and 167 Herkimer Street, these fridges rely on local donations from farmers, restaurants, and individuals like you.
Why BCF Matters
Founded in October 2020, BCF started in front of the old Gigi’s restaurant during the pandemic when access to food became a growing concern. Inspired by similar efforts in NYC, Jessie Reardon and a small team of volunteers brought the concept to Buffalo. Today, BCF continues to provide 24/7 access to fresh food for anyone in need—no questions asked.
How You Can Help
BCF always needs donations and volunteers to keep the fridges stocked and maintained. Here’s how you can make a difference:
✅ Donate fresh food & non-perishables – Fruits, veggies, dairy, snacks, and pantry staples are always in high demand.
✅ Cook individual pre-made meals – Just label and date them for safety.
✅ Help clean & maintain fridges – A quick wipe-down and organization go a long way!
✅ Join BCF’s volunteer network – Check out their website to connect via Slack.
💡 What BCF Can’t Accept: No raw meat, seafood, alcohol, opened/expired foods, catering trays, or non-food items.
